About Mike
Mike Boswell
Profile of excellence
Mike has been involved with the business of photography since 1975. He began as an apprentice in the darkroom of a photographer that took him under his wing and taught him the fundamentals. In 1991 Mike became an independent photographer and opened his own studio in Martinsville, VA. In the summer of 2000 he opened a second studio in Oak Island, NC. In June of 2010 Mike closed his studio in Martinsville and now devotes all of his time and energy to his studio located at South Harbor Village in Oak Island.
In this age of ever evolving change in photography there are a lot of "shooters" out there, but few have taken the time, effort and expense it requires to educate themselves in how to do it right.
To stay on the cutting edge of his industry Mike regularly attends continuing education classes, conventions and seminars and as a result has studied with some of the best portrait and wedding photographers in the world. In 1994 Mike achieved professional certification through the Professional Photographers of America a designation held by 2,000 photographers world-wide, being tested on his artistic, technical and ethical standards. Mike continues his certification by submitting his images for critique by a panel of leading photography judges on a regular basis.
In addition to being a CPP Mike is also a member of the Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of North Carolina and the Southeastern Professional Photographers Association.
Having photographed Governors, heads of state, corporate leaders and Miss America as well as the families, children and brides in the community Mike is comfortable in any setting
